Everything You Need To Know

Ride the bridge, Bike the Bay! On Sunday, August 23, 2020  cruise around the San Diego Bay and enjoy an opportunity to ride across the San Diego Coronado Bay Bridge.

This non-competitive community bike ride is for riders of all abilities and will take you on a scenic, and primarily flat, ride around the San Diego Bay via the Bayshore Bikeway. Along the way, riders will travel through the surrounding cities of Coronado, Imperial Beach, Chula Vista and National City before finishing back at the start/finish line at Embarcadero Marina Park in downtown San Diego.

Not only will the scenic 25-mile route travel through all five of these very diverse communities but it will also allow riders their only opportunity of the year to ride over the beautiful Coronado Bay Bridge.

You can also enjoy an optional 8 mile gravel loop in Otay Valley Regional Park – hosted by the San Diego Mountain Biking Association! Mountain bikes, hybrids and gravel bikes recommended for this fairly flat cruise that jumps right off the Bayshore Bikeway at the west end of Main Street in Chula Vista. • Rules & Restrictions

The Bike the Bay ride is a fun and non-competitive ride for cyclists of all abilities. We encourage the “go slow and say hello” model. The safety of all riders is our highest priority. Please observe the following rules/restrictions so everyone can enjoy a fun and safe ride:

    • Helmets are mandatory for all riders – you will not be permitted to cross the bridge without a helmet! There are a limited number of helmets available for purchase from vendors. Bike the Bay does not have helmets.
    • No individual riders under the age of 10.
    • Riders will not be allowed on the official course unless they display bike numbers on the front of their bike.
    • Except for the one side of the bridge, the route will be open to all traffic so riders must share the road and avoid impeding other traffic as much as possible.
    • Riders should use bike lanes when available and safe, and ride as close to the right hand side of the road as practicable.
    • Riders must obey all rules of the road, traffic signals, crossing signals, and stop signs at all times.
    • Watch downhill speeds and stay in control at all times.
    • Reckless, fast and out of control riders will be stopped and taken off the course by ride officials.
    • If you have a flat tire or mechanical problem, please pull slowly off to the right and out of the pathway of oncoming riders. This is especially important while crossing the bridge.
    • If you need help because of illness, injury, fatigue, or mechanical failure, pull off of the road to the right. Place your bike safely out of the way and in an upside down position. A SAG wagon and ambulance will patrol the course. First aid will be available at the start/finish.
    • Bicycle Repair will be available only at the rest stops.
    • Do not take photos during the bridge crossing. A photographer will be on the bridge to take your picture.
    • Unfortunately, due to the significant time and cost of planning this amazing event we are not able to offer refunds.
    • Have FUN, be SAFE and ENJOY the ride!
